The Access theme works are due to start in Poole Park on Monday 24th February 2020. We are pleased to be working with Aggregate Industries Ltd on this project who will act as principle contractor.

The first initial phase of work is the removal of selected trees along the carriage drive that are either in decline or diseased with a limited remaining lifespan. The trees have had on-going checks for bat roosts and will also be checked for nesting birds prior to any works starting. 33 trees in total will be removed by Upton Specialist Tree Services and more detail on these tree works can be read in this News Update.

The Access Theme work will:

  • make the park more accessible, with friendlier crossing points for pedestrians
  • slow vehicles down making it harder to drive through the park
  • remove highway features like the roundabout and reduce the amount of tarmac surface
  • provide new lighting all the way along the carriage drive and from the cricket pavilion to copse close.
  • install new drainage and resurface roads and paths to prevent local flooding issues
  • remove 32 trees and plant 51 new trees along the drive and nearby areas.
  • resurface the southern half of the cycle track and improve the drainage around the cricket pitch to the freshwater ponds
  • resurface access to the Lodges
  • remove infrastructure such as metal knee-rails and open up garden spaces for public use with new benches.

There will be regular communication with all stakeholders through the works. Park users will be kept informed through banners that are being installed in Poole Park that explain the works and these are also available to view on the Access 2020 page. There will also be regular blog posts and information available on the facebook and twitter accounts. There is a specific banner detailing the reasons why selected trees are being felled which you can view here.

Aggregate industries will begin setting up site compounds and material storage areas from the 16th March, with construction work actually starting the following week, 23rd March. There will inevitably be some disruption to park users through this time, with local diversions in place for pedestrians and road users, these will be publicised in detail nearer the time.
