The current restrictions in Poole Park to all vehicles, other than construction vehicles, will remain in place for at least the short term. This means that even though car parks across the conurbation are now being re-opened all three vehicle entrances to Poole park will stay closed to the public. This allows park users to continue to use the park for walking, cycling and exercising dogs without the usual volumes of traffic. However, please be aware that maintenance and construction vehicles are still moving through the park and this prolonged closure also aids the safety and efficiency of the construction works.
Construction traffic is using both the East Gate entrance by the Civic centre and the Whitecliff Road entrance for materials to be delivered and operatives to access the park. Seldown Lodge entrance at the town centre end of the park is completely closed whilst the Phase 1 of construction takes place to rebuild the road and footpaths.
We hope to re-open the tennis courts by Friday 15th May, please check here for access information and the latest updates. At this time all other park concessions and facilities remain closed.
The construction works are proceeding with the contractor, Aggregate Industries, enforcing social distancing and various risk assessments in place to cover all operatives and visitors to the work site to protect everybody. We ask park users to respect the safety signage in place, at present the main impact is on the shared use of the promenade between The Kitchen restaurant and west field, see photo below left, where we ask cyclists to dismount to allow safe distancing. The safety fencing is kept as far from the water’s edge as possible to maximise space and the car park should be resurfaced and re-opened in early June.
A weekly update on the construction works with a programme will be published on Friday.
