Aggregate Industries have been setting up in Poole Park for a few weeks but this week has seen the first ‘real’ works take place.

These regular updates will feature the work that has taken place, why and where and then outline what is coming next. You can read previous News articles or take a look at the Access project page to get a greater depth of understanding of all of the improvements taking place.

This week: Work has started to change Westfield car park, next to The Kitchen restaurant. The entrance to the car park is being narrowed and new paths constructed around the edges to make it easier for pedestrians to cross and navigate around the space. The overall layout of the car park will also be more sympathetic in the wider landscape, using gentle curves to replicate what would have originally been landing stages to the waters’ edge for horse and carriage. The photos below show the trenching for new kerbs to be installed around the edges and the excavation of top soil for the foundations to go in. This work was originally scheduled for later in the works programme but has been brought forward to take advantage of the vehicle restrictions.

Next Week: From Monday 27th April the entrance at Seldown Lodge (from the town centre end) will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists, on top of the current vehicle restrictions. A diversion will be in place to secure the area from the Lodge (photo below) to near to the water fountain so that Phase 1 of works can start in earnest. Social distancing requirements mean that it is not possible to keep the footpath open during these works so it is safer for everybody to divert around the large field and play area. Signage will be in place as soon as this comes in to effect on Monday.

The work in Phase 1 will see the tree stumps ground out and the road and footpaths prepared for full-depth reconstruction of the new surfacing, crossing points, bays and pits for new trees to be planted in and other improvements.

Work to Westfield car park and some smaller scale changes near to the Bowls club will also continue at the same time.
