The water fountain in Poole Park, installed as part of the centenary celebrations in 1990, is being repaired and refurbished as part of the National Lottery Heritage Fund improvements in the park.<\/p>\n
The fountain has been drained down over the last couple of weeks to allow for inspection and this week the upper sections will be dismantled and removed for repair. The fountain breaks down in to 4 sections and the upper 3 will be removed and all the jets and pipe work replaced where necessary. The area will be fenced off during these works.<\/p>\n
The fountain will then be repainted and reinstalled before water testing and full commissioning. This process will likely take a few weeks and we look forward to the fully restored water fountain being a feature once again. We also hope to have new lighting installed to give the fountain greater prominence at night-time.<\/p>\n
Did you know that originally this was the location for a band-stand? Eventually removed in the early 1960s the site lay empty until funds became available for the centenary works that also included new boundary railings and the entrance up the slope from the fountain known as Norton’s Gate.<\/p>\n
