The HLF bid has been boosted by a generous donation from The Friends of Poole Park<\/a>\u00a0– as part of the match funding required to support the bid!<\/p>\n

Half the amount donated\u00a0comes directly from the Friends group own funds, the rest having been raised by their\u00a0\u2018Back the Bid\u2019 campaign which included fundraising activities such as collection boxes, raffles and tombolas, hoopla, hook a duck, lucky dip and name the teddy stalls at a range of events over the last few years.<\/p>\n

Michael Collins, Chairman of The Friends of Poole Park said: \u201cIt gives The Friends of Poole Park great pleasure and pride to be able to present a donation of over \u00a320,000 to Martin Whitchurch and the HLF Bid Team.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cMany people have volunteered their time and energy to help in the \u2018Back The Bid\u2019 fundraising campaign, but I would like to make special mention of Moira Muir who did much to organise the campaign, but who very sadly passed away in late 2016. I’d also like to mention that The Friends of Poole Park are still actively campaigning and fundraising to help assure the future of our wonderful park, and to ask those who are keen to see its preservation to join The Friends via our website, and help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayor of Poole, Cllr Xena Dion, who received the cheque on 20th January at The Friends of Poole Park\u2019s new Pop Up Shop in Ashley Cross, said: \u201cOn behalf of Borough of Poole, I would like to thank The Friends of Poole Park for their generosity. The fantastic amount donated is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the volunteers and their supporters and helps us get that much closer to securing significant investment in one of Poole\u2019s most popular and historic open spaces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martin Whitchurch, Poole Park Life Project Manager, Borough of Poole, said: \u201cWe\u2019re in the final stages of preparing our bid for submission on 28 February 2017 and this donation is a welcomed addition. The money will help fund new play equipment ensuring the park continues to be a place for children to enjoy themselves and have fun. Poole Park has a special place in many peoples\u2019 hearts and we are really excited about the plans for its future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its #BagsofHelp<\/strong> initiative in hundreds of regions across England and Wales. The scheme will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of \u00a312,000, \u00a310,000 and \u00a38,000 \u2013 all raised from the 5p bag charge.<\/p>

The Poole Park Sensory Garden\/Go-Kart Track Site project has been shortlisted for the public vote!<\/strong><\/p>

The Sensory Garden\u00a0project, alongside the other 2 projects in the area, has gone forward\u00a0to a public vote in Tesco stores now, with customers deciding the outcome.<\/p>

This project aims to reuse an area of Poole Park which was previously used as a Go-Kart Track. This area has fallen into disrepair and is currently inaccessible to the public. Following consultation with members of the local community, the site has potential to be a sonsory, or quiet garden, which will maximise the waterside setting and provide new interest for a wide range of park users.<\/p>

In-store voting 26th September - 9th October<\/h3>

Between Monday 26th September\u00a0and Sunday 9th October you will receive a voting token with every transaction in your local Tesco store. You can use the token to vote for your favourite scheme - we hope you'll be voting for the Go-Kart track project!\u00a0 :-)<\/p>

The Tesco Bags of Help team will notify us of the outcome\u00a0by the end of October 2016 and confirm the amount of our grant award. The project with the highest number of votes across our region will receive \u00a312,000, the second placed project \u00a310,000 and the third placed project \u00a38,000.<\/p>
