Following consultation in our Development Phase, we will be developing Poole Park’s Rose Garden into a ‘Garden of Memories and Reflection’. This will replace planting with a combination of roses and flowers to soften the feel of the space and to add seasonal interest throughout the year. Species will be selected for their association with life’s events, such as birth, marriage, death and their ability to evoke memories through colour, sight and scent.
Further consultation regarding changes to the Rose Garden will take place on Saturday 1st December, 10.30am to 12.30am at Poole Park Cricket Pavilion. This will be an opportunity to give your thoughts and ideas, which will feed into the planting scheme and overall design plan. It will include:
- A small presentation of the initial proposed design illustrating how it has been influenced by public feedback, site history and maintenance considerations
- Discussion regarding a possible bird bath sculpture
- Using art materials, explore and share your memories relating to a ‘Garden of Memories and Reflection’
This will be an informal discussion and will include tea/coffee and mince pies!
Please note that the first stage of development will take place from Monday 19th November, lasting for approx. 2 weeks, during which time visitors will not be able to access the Rose Garden. The works will involve shrub clearance followed by soil excavation/replacement. Linked to this, we will temporarily close off half of Middle Gate car park (which is the one next to the roundabout) between 19th – 30th November to create a disposal area for the imported soil.
Planting for the Rose Garden will take place in the Spring of 2019. Please get in touch if you wish to be involved in volunteer opportunities, or if you have any further queries regarding any of the above. Thank-you.
