This weekend the Friends of Hamworthy Park continued their work to improve and cleanse the area of the park, and surrounding roads and points of interest, making the area an even more beautiful place for all.

This group was formed in 1998 as a group of volunteer residents came together to improve the park, and in 2017 the group officially gained charity status. The group carry out regular litter picks on the park, every Wednesday morning in fact. Alongside these Wednesday morning litter picking sessions they also garden and look after key planting areas across the park. But the Friends group goes even further then this, with them regularly organising different events to bring attention and people to the park, as well as to help fund raise for the Friends of group and general park improvements. Other events they hold throughout the year include plant and produce sales as well as the summer fete.

Over the past weekend they took this amazing passion to improve the park even further, looking to clean up areas within the general Hamworthy area and outside of the park. On November 3rd the group managed to attract 30 volunteers to come and take part in a litter park that was aiming to clear the areas of St Michael’s Church, the surrounding woods as well as Cobb’s Lane. All together, the volunteers cleaned up this whole area, collecting a tonne of waste on the way, literally!

On top of all of this the Friends of Hamworthy Park also run occasional Saturday volunteer sessions. Their upcoming events includes bulb planting in the park itself on November 10th, and this begins at 10:30AM. They are also running another littler pick on Rigler Road on December 1st.

As you can see the Friends of Hamworthy Park are an incredibly busy and successful group, who continue to grow in numbers and the amount of events and activities they are running, it is truly great to see! They are always looking for new members and volunteers to take part, so if you are interested make sure to ‘Like’ their Facebook page, but also check out their website to find out the latest updates on the park and activities the group are carrying out, you can find it via this link:¬†
