Welcome to this weeks Enviroteers blog.

The first and most important thing that we must talk about is of course the 2019 Great British Beach Clean! Happening over the weekend of September 21st and 22nd, this looks to be another well supported and successful weekend of volunteer environmental action. On Saturday 21st we will be stationed opposite the Wessex Gate Retail Park on the Harbour pathway ready with all the necessary equipment including pickers and gloves. We will be down there from 8:30am, and we are hoping for some good weather! On the Sunday our partners at Poole Heathlands will be running a litter pick from Lake Pier by Ham Common. They will be starting from 10am and again will be supplying everything you need to litter pick the Ham Common beach. We cannot wait to see some of you there!

Since our last blog we also have a few new exciting projects on the horizon. One of these is looking to support our colleagues in park maintenance and natural habitats to help improve the area at Millfield Pond in Creekmoor. This project is aiming to be very community focused and we hope to get local residents involved with helping to improve and manage the area moving forward. This is really exciting for this area which has become a bit unloved over the past few years.

On top of this we are awaiting to start advertising for some community mornings in Alexandra Park, where we are hoping to carry out some activities around bird boxes and the local wildlife that you can spot in the park. Building up a community spirit at this park is of real importance to us, and we have heard the same from local residents so we hope for this to be a continued part of that process. Finally, we are looking to the future, as we look to put together a full long-term plan of volunteer activities that we hope to run across Poole. Alongside the work of community groups and other one-off events, we hope this provides an increased means for people to volunteer across their local area.
