Consultation is now closed
We invited six of the UK’s leading play companies to provide concept designs for Poole Park which were then consulted on during July and August 2016.
Thanks to everyone who commented, completed a questionnaire or came along to our consultation events and activities.
If we are successful in our bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund we will use all your feedback to inform a full design competition, which would be tendered in late 2017, meaning we could build the play areas in 2018!
The six designs
The public was asked to view & assess the six designs (below) before selecting their three favourites. We will publish results in September once all the feedback has been collated.
Improving the existing play areas and introducing a play landscape for all ages and abilities throughout the park.
A Play Strategy has been written that sets out the vision for play and a design brief for the different spaces:
- Westfield play area
- Cygnet play area
- Natural play landscapes
- Outdoor fitness equipment.
Vision for Play
There is potential for play opportunities across all of Poole Park, with a destination play area at West field that will be completely redesigned to be the best in the local area.
Cygnet play area will continue to focus on play for younger children and will be redesigned and refurbished.
The new play areas will be based on innovation, providing a thematic link to its history and the local area. It will be fully accessible for all ages and abilities, encouraging informal social use between generations.
Opportunities for playable landscapes outside of the formal play areas will be encouraged, building on the heritage of climbing on leaning trees.
