Charborough Road Cricket Facilities

Work to replace the artificial cricket wicket at Charborough Road has been completed.
The original artificial wicket was approximately seven years old and was funded in 2007 using £5,000 from Planning Obligations (Broadstone Ward) Casual Play & Amenity Open Space fund.
In June, the cricket wicket was found to have been vandalised by a member of the public having a disposal BBQ on the turf and burning through it and the shockpad beneath.
The cricket facilities at Charborough Road are used by Broadstone Cricket Club, Lytchett Manor Cricket Club and Dorset Cricket Board.

Cricket Wicket Repairs
Broadstone Cricket Club (BCC), are the main users of the cricket facilities at Broadstone Recreation Ground, Charborough Road, which include the pitch itself and a small pavilion comprising one room for both social and changing, and a small kitchen.
The land and buildings are owned by Borough of Poole and the Council is looking at sustainable future management of the site.
Currently the cricket pitch is suitable only for junior play as it fails to meet England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) regulations for adult or premier league sides.
25-year Lease offer to Broadstone Cricket Club
The Council is considering offering BCC a lease to take on future responsibility and maintenance of the cricket facilities on site. Pitch maintenance will be undertaken by club volunteers and participation levels should increase as the ground is adapted to host adult premier league games.
A lease of up to 25 years will give the Club some security and enable members to attract external investment into the site.
‘DISPOSAL OF OPEN SPACE’ NOTICE
Because this term is greater than 7 years, we will be advertising our intention to lease the site and inviting members of the public to comment.
This advertisement is called a “Disposal of Open Space Notice” (the ‘Notice’). Please note that the Borough would retain the freehold for the land at all times. For an objection to the disposal to be considered it needs to specify reasons why the Borough should not grant a long lease to the Club:

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Borough and County of the Town of Poole is considering granting a long lease of land to the existing pavilion and cricket pitch to Broadstone Cricket Club which forms part of an open space at Broadstone Recreation Ground, Charborough Road, Broadstone, Poole for use as a cricket club pavilion, cricket pitch and associated storage.
Objections to the intended disposal must be made in writing to the Culture and Community Services and sent to the Council by 14th May 2015. Comments (quoting Broadstone Recreation Ground) can be sent by:-
